This skin is harder than the knife itself, and resists high heat from friction as well as preventing warping.

These Gold Standard holders are ideal for use in applications where abrasive materials are cut. The titanium skin not only protects the side plates from warping by keeping them cool, but also allows them to last longer due to their higher hardness. In addition to protection from heat, the skin allows for better lubricity and wear resistance.
